Norberto Majlis artistic practice can be inscribed within the new-figuration, an artistic movement that has been particularly strong in South America. He is able to create intensely expressive poetic imagery by appealing to the formal resources of expressionism, surrealism, symbolism and informalism. He combines sometimes painting and sculpture, incorporating three dimensional objects on his canvases. His palette is vibrant, reminiscent perhaps of his artistic background from South America. He gives the human figure frequently a central role.
In his work, which includes painting, drawing, print media, installation and sculpture, he often comments on main social, political and environmental contemporary issues, appealing at times to paradox and caricature, with a critical and sometimes satirical bias.
